The castle’s location is secluded, situated above the village of Smolenice. It is surrounded by a park with inviting pathways for leisurely walks, which also connect to marked tourist routes leading to the Little Carpathians (Slovak: Male Karpaty; German: Kleine Karpaten; Hungarian: Kis-Karpatok), a low mountain range spanning about 100km and part of the Carpathian Mountains.
The highest point, Zaruby, stands at an elevation of 768 meters. The hike from the castle to the Zaruby hilltop typically takes around 4.5-5 hours for a round trip.
Participants preferring nature walks can opt for this instead of the bus excursion to Bratislava on Day 6 (Thursday, July 4, 2024). Should you decide to do so, do not forget to bring your hiking boots.
A special bus commissioned by the organizers will take the students from Bratislava directly to the castle and back. Detailed information will be provided individually to all participants.
